Quantum Mechanics, Randomness, and Deterministic Reality

چکیده
We describe and analyze a new formulation of Bohmian mechanics—the deterministic theory of particles in motion that emerges from Schrödinger’s equation for a system of particles when we merely insist that “particles” means particles. This mechanics resolves all paradoxes associated with the measurement problem in nonrelativistic quantum mechanics. It accounts for quantum randomness, absolute uncertainty, the meaning of the wave function of a system, collapse of the wave function, and familiar (macroscopic)

A Global Equilibrium as the Foundation of Quantum Randomness
We analyze the origin of quantum randomness within the framework of a completely deterministic theory of particle motion—Bohmian mechanics. We show that a universe governed by this mechanics evolves in such a way as to give rise to the appearance of randomness, with empirical distributions in agreement with the predictions of the quantum formalism. Crucial ingredients in our analysis are the co...
متن کاملA possible experimental test to decide if quantum mechanical randomness is due to deterministic chaos in the underlying dynamics
A simple experiment using radioactive decay is proposed to test the possibility of a determinsistic, but chaotic, origin of quantum mechanical randomness. In a recently proposed mechanism for understanding the “measurement problem” in quantum mechanics [1], i.e., the transition from quantum to classical behaviour, the possibility arise that the quantum mechanical randomness actually can derive ...
متن کاملQuantum Randomness and Nondeterminism
Does the notion of a quantum randomized or nondeterministic algorithm make sense, and if so, does quantum randomness or nonde-terminism add power? Although reasonable quantum random sources do not add computational power, the discussion of quantum random-ness naturally leads to several deenitions of the complexity of quantum states. Unlike classical string complexity, both deterministic and non...
متن کاملQuantum Equilibrium and Theorigin of Absolute
The quantum formalism is a \measurement" formalism|a phenomenological formalism describing certain macroscopic regularities. We argue that it can be regarded, and best be understood, as arising from Bohmian mechanics, which is what emerges from Schrr odinger's equation for a system of particles when we merely insist that \particles" means particles. While distinctly non-Newtonian, Bohmian mecha...
متن کاملDeterministic Relativistic Quantum Bit Commitment
We describe new unconditionally secure bit commitment schemes whose security is based on Minkowski causality and the monogamy of quantum entanglement. We first describe an ideal scheme that is purely deterministic, in the sense that neither party needs to generate any secret randomness at any stage. We also describe a variant that allows the committer to proceed deterministically, requires only...
